Download size limit in Internet Explorer

imageThis is a new one on me. Internet Explorer has an upper limit on the size of files that it can download. I used Firefox instead and it’s not exactly a common occurrence but one that surprised me none the less. Just as well the Windows 7 RC disc image was less than 4GB.

(It was a Linux ISO before anyone thinks I’m downloading movies illegally)

This bug has been fixed in Internet Explorer 8.
That is according to a Knowledge Base Article Here.

Is there a way of knowing the size of total downloads I have made through Internet explorer?
I have a 5GB download limit on my wimax connection so i want to know how much downloads i have made and how much more i can do without exceeding the limit. The ISP does not have a notifier or any other service which tells us about the downloads.
