Windows 7 power plans
I blogged a month back weeks ago about the power plans in Vista, and how there isn’t really any difference between the Balanced and High Performance plans. Well apart from the noise of my notebook fan on constantly that is.
Windows 7 appears to have got rid of high performance altogether as you can see here.
I think this is a good thing. There was no real performance benefit to running in High Performance mode and Balanced should help save power. That gives longer battery life for notebook users, and hopefully saves on the electricity bill for everyone.

The High performance mode can be found if you click "More power options" at the bottom of that box.

Hi Greg
Well spotted! I did have a quick play with that option and found high performance. I was just pleased that it wasn't an option by default because of the power usage impact without any big improvement in performance.

Guess we will have to settle for one - we can't have the cake and eat it too.

That is right. It's always good to have some improvements on its system.

I hope this makes a difference and is not simply a gimmick. Currently my laptop battery lasts around 70 minutes on balanced and 50 minutes on high performance which is very poor.

Long time awaited news. Laptop battery should last least 120 minutes to watch a movie in bed :)

I think window 7 really save energy compare to other applications. That's why I'm using it now but still testing it if it will last long for continues use in high performance. Anyway, Thank You for the informative post.

Did notice that myself, that there was no real difference between high performance and balanced I always just left it on balanced.

I really like the High Performance mode because sometimes you need exactly but cannot derive it here you can so why not.
