Patch available for Internet Explorer

An important one this. A patch is now available for the well-publicised bug in Internet Explorer. It should appear through Windows Update automatically but it’s worth checking by going to the Windows Update web site.

Thanks for the patch. IE has been extremely slow for me when I try to access Gmail. Google says that updating the IE would solve the problem. For now I am using Firefox out of lack of choice, otherwise it is IE that I love :) Will update mine soon ;)

Thanks again!

I seem to get an automatic update almost every day. Is this normal or is something wrong?

I think auto updating is a pain. I used to get updates almost everyday and big update files that seemed to get "stuck" and never finish updating, but used to slow the computer dowm. I have now reloaded the Vista operating system into my computer and leave updating permanetly off so Im using it in its original as purchased state, August 2007. Everything is working just fine so why bother with updating? The only updating I do is for AVG free anti-virus.

I had been using IE for years up until the past couple of months. Why has this fix taken so long? It's not like they didn't know about this for some time. I gave up and have been using Firefox. Don't know if I will go back to IE or not...

Ok this is good at one point, but this have made more good smiles on many peoples. Even before this Microsoft released a patch that eliminates this vulnerability for Internet Explorer 5.5. This patch is currently available for Internet Explorer 4.01 SP2 and 5.01, and 5.01 SP1 at microsoft websites. And due to this I got to know that attackers started distributing the exploit code to Web sites using sql injection.

I'm still using IE until now. Once, I moved to FF. But then I found my FF got crashed quite often. I have re-install it for several times, but still had the same problem, automatically closing. By that time, I bact to IE until now.

Both FF and IE crash on me regularly. The part I hate most about IE, is when you open a new tab, it takes 10-15 seconds where it says "Connecting" until you can do anything with that tab.

And, I had to turn off auto-updating on some of my older Windows machines; Microsoft kept installing components that would slow down the entire machine.

I've moved to Google Chrome when doing anything "official" like filling out forms. I use FF for everything else.

Thanks for the bug information. My I.E browser has been slow for sometime. This update has helped me fix this. I had almost migrated to firefox instead. It seems that there are so many exploits of windows i.e and thats why i feel safe using firefox. Thats my opinion!

My computer kept freezing and crashing, I thought it might be because of this bug. However, after my husband installed the patch, it still keeps happening. I have downloaded a lot of files recently so I am wandering if I downloaded some virus? I do have AVG to check for viruses and also have an anti spyware, which have only come up with the usual cookies, so is there anything else I can do? Thanks

Sometimes IE stops working for me if I've had the browser open for a long time.

It just won't respond after I click on a link. Nothing will happen.

Then I just close the browser and open a fresh one. Sometimes that works.

Other times I have to restart my computer.

Maybe I should look into FF or Google Chrome.

Is this fix at all related to that recent much publicized security flaw they had been having?

I applied this patch and ever since my yahoo messenger has started crashing giving me a scripting error. Anyone else facing this issue?

I haven't seen this on yahoo messenger. On a different note, I'm using windows live and after applying this patch, windows live is working much faster.

Does anyone else use different browsers on different computers? I have an older laptop that doesn't like FF at all so I use IE on that. On my newer desktop, it's all FF.

From my experience I can say that any kind of auto-update feature I have used is a pain for sure! Windows updates never seem to get finished, Firefox seems to download an update almost every week, whether its own or that of some addon I have installed. As for Norton, beware when it downloads updates: it would slow down your machine to a snail's pace and make it virtually inoperative!

Not so long ago I left IE for Firefox because IE was extremely insecure and buggy at that time, not to speak that with FF you get so many cool add-ons. The joy of using open source software!

Anyways, I hope that IE users benefit from this update.
