Family Historian 4 announced. Free upgrade offer

Calico Pie, the people behind Family Historian, has announced that version 4 will be released in February next year. There's an upgrade deal so that if you buy version 3 now, you can upgrade for 3.

I rather liked Family Historian the last time I looked at it. It is possible to label people in a photo and link it to their record. It seemed a much better solution as opposed to just linking the whole photo.

The other reason is that it saves family trees in the GEDCOM format, the standard genealogy format. You might not share my fondness for file format standards but it does have the big benefit of being able to get the information out more easily with another program should the need arise.

I will definitely let my mom know about this new software. She is the "family historian", although my grandma did it for a few years, too. In my mom's case, though, she was looking for certain people for a certain reason. However, this looks like something she could really use for her records, which are extremely organized.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't heard of the Family Historian line of genealogy software before now. But you're right common file format standards are a GOOD thing for everyone and the idea of tagging an image from an individuals record versus including the image in EACH individuals record is good planning.

I'll have to add this to my list of software to take a look at and perhaps highlight for my Genealogy site.

My Partners Father has just done some research on his family tree and found out some interesting facts. He found out that one of his ancestors was deported as a convict to Australia for stealing liquor and wine and some wine glasses. He was only 14 at the time.He now wants to do some research on his wifes family so I'm sure he will be interesetd in this when I tell him about it.

It is a pity this is not being released until February. I think it would have made a great gift for family history crazed sister. HOwever, I suppose if I got version 3 for Christmas she would at least get th new program when is was released.
